Opportunities

...gain real world experience immediately...

One of the reasons I chose to work at Starn O’Toole Marcus & Fisher is because of its reputation for giving young associates opportunities to gain real world experience immediately and the ability to move upward within the firm. Other law firms generally keep associates tucked away for a year or two before giving them the chance to really work as an attorney.  SOM&F takes the opposite approach and urges associates to take control of matters early on.

Aside from the responsibilities to clients, associates have many opportunities to get involved in the administration of the firm. For example, associates are encouraged to form and join committees for various matters ranging from updating the software and computer system to donations to the University of Hawaii. Being involved in the internal workings of the firm makes me feel like I have a stake in the company itself and that my ideas are valued by the directors.
