Ms. Orman represents diverse clients, including hotels, developers, government agencies, publicly traded companies, closely held entities, and individuals. She focuses her practice in the areas of real estate acquisitions and sales, land use and entitlements issues, business structure and operations, business transactions, and legislative and other government relations work.

Examples of Ms. Orman’s work include:

Hawaii counsel for one of the world’s largest hotel owners. Ms. Orman is a key member of the SOM&F team representing one of the world’s largest hotel owners. Work includes real estate acquisitions, development, permitting, title issues, and government affairs work.

Eminent Domain. Ms. Orman represents a government agency in connection with the condemnation of dozens of property interests for major infrastructure improvements. Work includes title and ownership issues, legal compliance, governmental approvals, and litigation strategy and support.

Real Estate Sales and Acquisitions. Ms. Orman regularly represents clients in connection with real estate sales and acquisitions. Work includes contract drafting and review, due diligence, closing documents and title insurance.

Land Use and Development. Ms. Orman advises clients on a number of matters related to land use and development. Work includes advising clients on entitlements and approvals, contract drafting and review (construction contracts, development agreements, and other related documents), title issues, and governmental affairs work.

Business Transactions. Ms. Orman regularly represents clients in connection with entity formation, registrations, and governing documents. Ms. Orman has also handled numerous business acquisitions from contract negotiations through closing, including several asset purchases on behalf of a Hawaii real estate brokerage.

Legislative work. Ms. Orman is registered as a lobbyist with the State of Hawaii and City and County of Honolulu. Work includes drafting proposed legislation and testimony, preparing legal analysis, meeting with key stakeholders, and advising clients on campaign spending and other reporting requirements.

Litigation experienceMs. Orman has represented clients in state and federal court and in arbitrations. Ms. Orman’s transactional work is informed by her litigation experience, including complex construction litigation and disputes related to entity control and change of control.

Before joining Starn O’Toole Marcus & Fisher, Ms. Orman served as a law clerk to Chief Judge Emily Hewitt in the United States Court of Federal Claims in Washington, DC. During law school, Ms. Orman interned with the U.S. Department of Justice, National Courts Section, Civil Division.

Prior to law school, Ms. Orman worked as a book editor at Random House, Inc. in New York City, where she acquired and edited books for both the Crown and Three Rivers Press imprints. Ms. Orman was born and raised in Texas.
