Ivan Lui-Kwan Elected to American Judicature Society National Board of Directors

Ivan Lui-Kwan “Of Counsel” attorney with Starn O’Toole Marcus & Fisher has been elected to the national Board of Directors of the American Judicature Society (AJS).  The organization brings a public perspective to justice system issues, and has the mission to secure and promote an independent and qualified judiciary and a fair system of justice.

Mr. Lui-Kwan serves as vice chair of the Hawaii State Chapter of AJS, and has over 35 years of experience practicing law in the areas of Real Estate, Administrative Law and Land Use and Zoning.  He holds Martindale-Hubbell’s highest possible professional rating (AV), this rating is given by Mr. Lui-Kwan’s peers, based on their knowledge of his work, reputation and integrity. 

Mr. Lui-Kwan serves as vice chair of the Hawaii State Chapter of AJS.  He served for sixteen years on the Disciplinary Board of the Hawaii Supreme Court, ensuring the integrity of ethics through enforcement of the Hawaii Rules of Professional Conduct, and for twenty years as a partner in a mid size Hawaii law firm.

He served as Honolulu’s Director of Budget and Fiscal Services, as Executive Vice President and COO of The Queen’s Health Systems, and on the Hawaii Community Development Board.  He currently serves as chairman of the St. Andrew’s Priory School Board of Trustees and as director of St. Francis Development Corporation, and is past chairman of   the March of Dimes, Hawaii Chapter.

Mr. Lui-Kwan earned his law degree from Rutgers University School of Law and a Masters in International Relations from Rutgers University Graduate School.  Following law school, he clerked for former Chief Justice William S. Richardson of the Hawaii Supreme Court, who received the Herbert Harley Award from the American Judicature Society last fall.
